Can I Do Anything In the Winter?

You might be surprised but the answer is yes. Winter is a great time for indoor projects like cabinet refinishing, electrical or bathroom updates and things like carpet and flooring. Those are the easy ones and can really be done year-round. But if you’re thinking of a home addition, the time between January and March has some unique advantages. Mainly the combination of cold or frozen ground and drier air means that digging and pouring the new foundation will be much easier than later in the year when the humidity is higher, and the ground can me muddy and soft.

Winter is also the best time to begin planning your projects as many remodeling contractors have fewer projects going on and usually have more time for estimates and design consultations. You may even save a little money booking your project before everyone gets too busy.

Springtime Is Great, But Can Be Busy

We all know what a pleasure it can be to work when the weather is nice, inside or outside. The time between April and mid-June is a great time accomplish any home remodeling project. Problem is, everyone else thinks the same way and it can be really busy. This time is considered the home building season and you might find that your contractors are working multiple jobs at once and yours is just one of many they are trying to get done. So be ready to deal with narrower scheduling windows and the fact that your job may be delayed or have to be done at a different time that you want it completed. Top level contractors or bigger remodeling companies are used to dealing high volume and it shouldn’t be much of an issue, after all…they are professionals. So, make sure you discuss this before hiring anyone.

Summer Time And The Remodeling’s Easy

The summer months can be hot which works out well in a couple of ways. The time between July to September offers the warmer temperatures needed to help certain roofing materials seal properly, so consider saving that new roof for the summer. If the heat is driving you inside, then it is a great time to handle those DIY projects like kitchen or bathroom remodeling, interior paint and anything that needs to be done inside. Summer is a popular time for vacationing and travel so make sure to plan accordingly and make sure your contractors schedule works with your family’s.

A Lot Can Be Done In Q4

Working on a remodel from October to December is not out of the question but you may be racing the weather on some projects. Consider getting your outdoor projects completed before Halloween, when the weather is and temperature outside is still ideal for getting some work done. This may also be your last chance to complete some indoor jobs before all of the entertaining and visits from friends and family that happen in November and December. Remember too that this time of the year is one of the busiest for shipping companies and there may be delays on certain products and supplies that you order online.

These timing suggestions can vary a bit depending on where you live, but here in the Treasure Valley it should hold true. Regardless of what part of the country you’re in you can rely on your local contractors for advice on timing and when to get projects started.
