When it came time to renovate our kitchen, we had a dilemma.
Do we scrap our old high-quality solid wood — but worn out cabinets?
Do we replace them with EXPENSIVE, new, not as high quality, cheaply-made cabinets?
We looked at all of the new modern trendy cabinets, which were admittedly tempting, but couldn’t afford, then came home and took a closer look at our existing, beautiful, [handmade by Mennonites in Pennsylvania!] with their thick & solid wood: substantial, but VERY tired-looking cabinets.
They were dry, faded, worn, showed drip marks regardless of how much we cleaned them, at least 30 years old — just blah.
We tried all kinds of over-the-counter store products, but nothing could or would restore their luster and beauty… not to mention that trying to restore them ourselves would have been crazy difficult, and time-consuming!
One of the kitchen specialists at Home Depot saw us agonizing and recommended Jay come & take a look. They gave us his card, and we rather skeptically made the call.
Long story made very short, Jay and his team restored our cabinets to what we consider more beautiful than how they looked originally. The color is rich, deep, cherry and their extreme work and efforts completely and totally changed the entire look of the kitchen.
And, they are most certainly better quality than anything we could have afforded to buy in today’s inflated market place.
Jay also worked with us to tweak some modifications to make them more useful, given that we had been using them so many years and were therefore familiar with what worked and what didn’t. We made many changes as we went along and Jay was so patient with us and worked with us hand-in-hand the entire way until we achieved our goals.
For a fraction of what it would cost to install new, we rejuvenated and renovated what we had without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
We achieved the additional satisfaction of not disposing of an asset that was tired, but instead turned our problem into a project.
New isn’t always better.
Renewed — often is.
On top of all of that, Jay’s crews were great, and Jay himself is a wonderful man who we now consider a friend.
Love the guy!
Having him work in our home was like having a member of the family or a close friend undertaking a project with us — except better because of his extensive experience and wisdom.
We trusted him and are beyond glad we did as he is a most ethical & trustworthy man.
