Welcome to Floor of the Month, our recurring series where we take you behind the scenes of one of our recently completed projects. This month, we’re heading to Springfield, Ohio, and this one’s worth the full tour.

This homeowner didn’t come to us for a single-room fix. They wanted the floors done right, from the front door through every hallway, the kitchen, the living areas, the bedrooms, all of it. The floors are just the beginning. This customer is in the middle of a full home and kitchen transformation with N-Hance Wood Refinishing of Columbus. They’re getting cabinet refacing with new cabinet doors and drawer front, new countertops, and a backsplash. We’ll be back with the full kitchen reveal once it’s complete. For now, let’s see what the floors looked like before, and what they look like now.

Before: Dull, Worn & Ready for a Refresh

The floors had lived a full life. The finish had dulled out, high-traffic areas showed visible wear, and the warm tones the wood once had faded into something flat and tired. In the kitchen especially, years of foot traffic had left the surface scuffed and uneven. The hallways, entry, and bedrooms told the same story, good bones, but a finish that had run its course.

The Refinishing Process

We started the hardwood floor refinishing process with a sand. Scratches, dirt, and wear marks were removed down to bare wood, which is what makes a true refinish possible. It levels the surface, completely removes the old stain and finish, and opens the grain so the new stain absorbs evenly across every plank.

We use a state-of-the-art sander that is virtually dust-free and delivers an extremely even finish, avoiding the drum marks or waves that traditional sanders often leave behind. It’s also gentler on the floors themselves, which means it works on many floors other professional hardwood floor refinishers  walk away from. We can refinish factory pre-finished, parquet, and engineered hardwood with as little as 1/8 inch of wood.

From there, the water-based stain went down. The homeowner wanted warmth, something rich and natural, not bright or orange. The result is a honey-toned finish that brings out the character of the red oak grain without overpowering it. N-Hance stains are water-based, low-VOC, and environmentally friendly.

The final step was the finish. A water-based topcoat was applied to protect the wood, prevent yellowing over time, and give the floors that clean, reflective look you can see throughout the photos below. Using N-Hance’s Lightspeed UV light curing technology, the protective finish is instantly hardened when we leave, which means no waiting around and no disruption to your family’s routine

Kitchen & Living Area

The kitchen and open living area are the heart of this home, and they got the most attention. After a full sand and refinish, the transformation is immediate. The same boards that looked scuffed and flat now have a beautiful, glowing finish that makes the whole space feel refreshed, and sets a beautiful stage for the cabinet and countertop work still to come.

Hallways & Entry

Hallways take more foot traffic than just about anywhere else in the house. Every hallway and the main foyer entry were included in the refinish, so the floors now flow consistently from the front door all the way through.

Bedrooms, Closets & Half Bath

No room got skipped. Bedrooms, closets, and the half bath: every inch of hardwood in this home was included. The result is floors that feel intentional from the moment you walk in the door. It’s a great example of why floor refinishing beats replacement every time:

What’s Next: A Full Kitchen Transformation

Hardwood floor refinishing was phase one. This homeowner is still actively working with N-Hance on a full kitchen makeover, including cabinet door replacement, new countertops, and a backsplash. When it’s all said and done, the kitchen will match the quality of the floors underneath it.

We’ll be back with the full before-and-after kitchen reveal once the project wraps up. If you’ve been thinking about a kitchen remodel in the Columbus or Springfield area, stay tuned!

Why This Project Stands Out

Most floor refinishing jobs touch one or two rooms. This one covered the entire home: kitchen, living room, every hallway, the entry, bedrooms, closets, and the half bath. Every room with hardwood got a full sand, stain, and refinish. And rather than replacing anything, the homeowner kept the original wood and gave it a completely new life.

That’s what sets hardwood floor refinishing apart. The character, the solid construction, the history of the wood, it’s all still there. You’re just bringing back the finish that shows it off. It’s one of the smartest investments you can make in a home, and the results speak for themselves.

As a local hardwood floor refinishing and cabinet refacing company serving Columbus and the surrounding areas, this is the kind of project we love. One room or the whole house, we want every homeowner to walk in when it’s done and feel like the space was always meant to look this way.
