kitchen cabinet painting wayne pa

We talk to many homeowners who start a DIY home improvement project with high hopes, but then realize that they are in for more than they bargained for.  YouTube tutorials may seem doable but can end up being a lot more work than you thought.  N-Hance understands that frustration, especially when you want a project like cabinet painting to go smoothly.

You may think that taking on this project yourself can save you a little money, but it can also set you back precious time and remodeling dollars when it is not done correctly.  When you work with N-Hance of Delaware you don’t need to worry!  We have the tips to help make sure the job is done correctly.

1 – Choose color scheme inspiration

Search Pinterest, Instagram, or your favorite design magazine to find inspiration for your color palette.  Not sure what color would work best for your space?  Our team at N-Hance of Delaware can help you find good options for your kitchen.

2 – Pick the best primer, paint, and topcoat

Many people don’t know there is actually a special kind of paint made specifically for cabinets.  Lots of people make the mistake of using wall primers and latex paints on cabinets.  These are not specifically designed to last on cabinets and can wear down quickly.  Go with acrylic, enamel, or alkyd paint instead.

3 – Organize doors, drawers, and hardware as you remove them

There is a lot of disassembling and reassembling that goes into cabinet painting.  When you take off all the cabinet doors and hardware there can be bits and pieces everywhere.  Save yourself some stress by numbering and labeling your doors, drawer fronts, and hardware.  This will save you time in the long run!

4 – Thoroughly clean cabinets before painting

You might be excited to get to the painting portion of your project, but don’t be too hasty!  Take an adequate about of time before you begin painting to remove any grease, grime, and smudges from surfaces.

5 – Tint the primer for darker cabinets

If you are painting your cabinets a darker color you will most likely need several coats in order to get an adequate amount of coverage.  Tint the primer to match your cabinet color so that the process goes faster.  Add small amounts at a time until your primer is the correct color.

6 – Create a designated painting and drying area

Find a spot outside or somewhere open to lay everything to dry.  You will want to set up a good workstation with plenty of room.

7 – Put together a temporary kitchen

Your kitchen will probably be out of commission during your painting project so set up a small area in your home with a microwave, toaster, small fridge or cooler, paper plates, plastic utensils, and whatever else you need until your kitchen is put back together.
