If you’ve ever been to a paint supply store, you know that there are seemingly endless color options out there. This can make any remodeling project very difficult. Your kitchen is not an exception. People really struggle to choose a good cabinet color that will help their kitchen pop without being overbearing. N-Hance Wood Refinishing of Fort Wayne is here to help you in that process. Here are a few tips for choosing the right cabinet color for you and your kitchen from your custom cabinet color experts.

Tip 1: Consider The Lighting

Your kitchen’s lighting should play a huge part in your decision. If you have little natural light coming in and you want to brighten things up a bit, then try choosing a cabinet color that will do just that. Lighter shades will help the kitchen feel a little more bright. This may not be what you’re looking for though. Maybe you’re trying to tame the brightness a bit or you don’t necessarily want a bright space (everyone’s entitled to their feelings). That brings us into our next tip.

Tip 2: Consider The Mood

Color has an effect on the overall mood of your kitchen. That’s why it’s crucial to ask how you want your kitchen to feel. Do you want it to be warm and inviting, or something darker and more natural? There isn’t really a wrong answer here. Your cabinets can be an extension of your own personality. Pay attention to that and the right color or colors will present themselves. Remember that other people will be seeing this though, potentially with the thought of buying your home. We’ll cover that on our next tip.

Tip 3: Consider Future Buyers

More than likely, you won’t be your home’s last owner. Whether or not you’re changing up the color of your cabinets to attract a buyer now, you still have to keep future buyers in mind. They’ll notice things like if the color clashes too much with the walls, backsplash, appliances, etc.. Obviously you aren’t going to know exactly what every single person is looking for, but you should try to get familiar with current and classic trends. Finding the balance between your preference and a color that will attract potential buyers can be the key to finding the right color. This next tip should give you some additional insight in finding that balance.

Tip 4: Consider Using Multiple Colors

The cabinet refinishing crew here at N-Hance Wood Refinishing of Fort Wayne loves to complete two-tone projects. If there are two colors that you really love, why not choose both so long as they don’t clash? Maybe you go a little bolder on the top cabinets to express yourself but go with a more neutral color on the bottom that won’t turn off potential buyers. Just be sure the colors do actually work together, and especially don’t try to mix a natural with a painted look. In our final tip, we will go over a good practice for natural cabinets.

Tip 5: Consider Natural

Sometimes the natural color of the wooden cabinet is too amazing on its own to even consider adding in a new color. Really take a good look at your current cabinet and how the natural look makes you feel. If you notice a few scratches or dents, painting the cabinet a new color isn’t the only option to mask them. You can use our classic cabinet refinishing to eliminate the damage and restore the cabinet to its original, natural look.
