Simple Tips For Maintaining Your Shower

Your bathroom’s shower can be quite a chore to clean, but if neglected, it can accumulate mold, mildew and soap scum. Additionally, without proper care, your shower’s tiles and grout will begin look filthy and grimy, detracting from the shiny, clean look that you want. The following tips are designed to always keep your shower looking its best.

1. SQUEEGEE AFTER EVERY USE

After every shower, it’s important to grab a squeegee and wipe all the excess water off the tile walls and the shower door. If the floor is tiled, take a minute and wipe excess water towards the drain. The drier you can keep your shower, the less chance excess mold and mildew will have to grow.

2. LEAVE THE SHOWER DOOR OPEN

Keeping your shower as dry as possible includes removing as much humidity as possible. The best way to accomplish this is to leave the shower door, or the shower curtain, open for at least 30 minutes after each use. If you have trouble ventilating the bathroom, you may also want to leave a fan running and keep the bathroom door open as well.

3. THE PRODUCTS YOU USE WILL DETERMINE EVERYTHING

Many of the products people use in the shower will stain or discolor the grout in the shower. This includes shampoos, soap and bodywash, as well as the cleaning products you might use. If possible, choose clear or neutral-colored products and avoid soaps with bright colors. You should also avoid bar soap as much as possible because they cause stubborn soap scum.

4. Reduce Mineral Build-Up

Hard water deposits on your glass walls and shower door are just a part of life, even more so if you live in an area with hard water. This tip comes to you straight from one of our shower cleaning colleagues…to prevent hard water staining and mineral buildup from accumulating apply a layer of RainX to the inside of your glass surfaces about 4 times a year to create an extremely water repellent barrier in your shower.
