cabinet painting south salt lake & utah county

In the middle of a home improvement project that seemed like it should have been smooth sailing but is now looking more difficult than you thought it would be?  We have all been there.  Taking on a project yourself may sound easy enough, but when it comes to something like cabinet painting, you want it to go right the first time around.

N-Hance of South Salt Lake & Utah County has years of experience in the remodeling industry & is here to share a few key tips to help you get the job done right.

1 – Find color scheme inspiration from an existing design

Instead of starting from zero, find a color palette that you like from Pinterest, Instagram, or an interior design magazine.  This is a great jumping-off point.  If you sure aren’t sure what color will look best for your cabinets, N-Hance can help you find a great option for your space.

2 – Select the best primer, paint, and topcoat

Not everyone knows that there is a special type of paint that should be used when painting cabinets.  Don’t make the mistake of using wall primers or latex paint on cabinets.  Those mixtures aren’t made to last on cabinets and can wear down fast.  You will want to go with acrylic, enamel, or alkyd paint instead.

3 – Thoroughly clean cabinets before painting

Painting your cabinets is the fun part of the project, but cleaning them thoroughly before is one of the most important steps. Any grease, grime, and smudges need to be cleaned so that primer, paint, and top coat can adhere to your cabinet surfaces.

4 – Create a designated painting and drying area

If you are painting your cabinets try to find a spot outside to leave your cabinet fronts to dry.  They will need adequate ventilation to dry so set up a nice workspace with plenty of room to lay out your cabinet fronts and drawers.

5 – Put together a temporary kitchen

Your kitchen will most likely be out of commission as you are working on it.  To make things easier set up a temporary kitchen with a microwave, toaster, small fridge or cooler, paper plates, plastic utensils, and anything else you might need to get by until your cabinets are finished!
