Backstory – When we bought our Eugene home in 2010, its beautiful Alder wood kitchen cabinets were a feature. By 2023, those cabinets were solid but the finish on them had passed its prime and looked shabby. We thought that we would save money by hiring a handyman whose work we'd seen in our neighborhood to refinish the cabinets. When Bob the Handyman was through our cabinets had a crappy urethane finish that sealed in dust and stains. Worse yet all the dents and dings on the doors and drawers were still there when he asked for payment. We weren't happy and thought we had no alternative but to replace the cabinet doors and drawer faces – at $10K+. N-Hance – One morning while driving on Cal Young, we saw a truck with the N-Hance logo on the side. I took a picture of it and called them just to see what a professional would think of our problem and what it might cost to fix it. James Carter came out to the house the next afternoon. we showed him the kitchen, pointed out each of the dings and dents and explained what we wanted done. He thoroughly explained the N-Hance process and described what he could do to refurbish and re-finish the cabinets. He gave us an estimate (based upon the square footage!) He was friendly, knowledgeable and no-pressure. PLUS his estimate was very reasonable. After a long session of reviewing references online, we decided to give N-Hance a shot. The work – James' partner (and son) Justin arrived as scheduled and spent some time with us learning our expectations and where the trouble spots were from our point of view. Over the next 3 days, we watched as Justin carefully addressed each problem area with care and skill. When he had completed the job our kitchen seemed like new to us. Justin worked quietly and was respectful of our home, we even felt secure enough to run errands. What We Loved:
– Our only prep was to move the contents of our kitchen drawers to boxes, but we didn't need to take anything out of our cabinets.
– All areas surrounding the cabinets (counters, floor, appliances, etc. were covered or masked off with paper.
– The sander Justin used was virtually dust-free. there was no mess.
– If there was odor given off by the color-matching stains and finishes he used, we could not smell it.
– Justin sanded down the drawers, cabinet doors and cabinet faces that had nicks and dings.
– He re-stained sanded surfaces to match the rest of the cabinets.
– He cleaned up each day, allowing us to use our kitchen.
– Throughout this process James and Justin were available to answer questions on the phone and by text message. Their communication was very reassuring. Summary –
