Welcome to Spring! Even though we are enjoying the change of weather, its time to tackle a much needed project in your home. Spring cleaning!

It’s easy to say that one of the most important and popular places in your home would be the kitchen. It’s a place of gather and entertainment, so it should always be top of the list to keep nice and clean. Its important to deep clean this space regularly and eliminate as many germs and bacteria as possible. Wiping down the countertops and cleaning out the microwave is a must. However, there may be some places in the kitchen that we forget about.

Here are our tips:

Clean from the top down. It may seem like a no-brainer that you should clean an area from top to bottom. Allowing the dust not to settle on areas that you have already cleaned. The tops of your fridge and cabinets going unseen. That is why we don’t realize that after time dust builds up leaving a nasty layer of dust bunnies. Start by using a dry clothe or Swiffer Sweeper to gather as much of the dust as possible. Then grab a damp clothe to wipe the areas above your cabinets and fridge. Depending on the amount of dust that has settle, you may need to go over the area again with a different rag.

Clean under appliances.  As we walk around our kitchen enjoying our favorite cookie, Girl Scout Samoas, some of those crumb might end up on the ground. And as we move about our day, we may kick those crumbs underneath the fridge and stove. Carefully pull these large appliances from the wall and sweep the area to remove dirt and food crumbs. Follow that up with a good wet mop leaving the area nice and clean. Check back frequently to clean that area to prevent allergen build up.

Check pantry and food dates. There’s a good chance that you could find food in your freezer or pantry that is expired. Take time to sort through your pantry and fridge and throw away those nasty leftovers and expired items. You could end up saving money and create more room for your groceries.

Deep clean the cabinets. Wiping the outside of our cabinets is usually part of the our weekend chore. If not, it may be a good thing to add to the list. While keeping the outside of your cabinets clean is obvious, its also important to clean the inside of your cabinets. Food crumb may find their way into your cabinets and hide underneath your plates, small appliance and Tupperware.

Clean the cleaners! Assuming that the items we use to actually clean our kitchen are clean may not be the best thing to do. Bacteria can start to build up over time on your mops, rags, brooms and even your dishwasher. Take time to clean these items to extend their life. This could reduce the frequency that you would need to replace these items, saving you money!
