Are you tired of looking at scuffed, worn out, discolored hardwood floors? It’s time to restore them. However, if you’ve never gone through the process of hardwood floor refinishing before, you probably have some questions.

Here are a few common ones we often get at N-Hance® and the answers to each one. If you need more information or have a different question, we invite you to reach out to our team.

Can Hardwood Floors Be Refinished if They are Covered by Carpet?

Buying a new house and finding hardwood floors under the carpet is like winning the lottery. However, if they’re in rough shape, you might be wondering if they can be salvaged. With N-Hance, the answer is: yes! We can help you restore your hardwood floors – even those covered for years by carpet – to their original beauty and luster. You can remove and haul away the carpet, or we can handle the work.

Can You Work on Pre-Finished Floors?

Pre-finished floors aren’t as durable as unfinished hardwood because they have an aluminum oxide finish coat that’s baked in during manufacturing. This can make them more vulnerable to scratches, scuffs, and other signs of damage you might be noticing. The good news is that N-Hance can renew and refinish these just as we would with any hardwood floor. You can even change the color to a richer or deeper stain if you prefer.

Can You Refinish Engineered Wood?

If you have engineered wood floors that are showing signs of wear and tear, you might think you have to replace them. However, many customers are surprised to find out that we can also refinish these types of floors, as well.

With our non-sandable floor refinishing process, we use a liquid abrasion technique that removes the old layer of finish – instead of a drum sander that would sand away the top layer of the engineered wood. As a result, our process works well for engineered wood and is also far less messy, noisy and disruptive. In addition to engineered wood floors, we can even handle non-sandable flooring like cork, bamboo, and hand-scraped floors.

What About Laminate Wood Floors?

No, we can only work on wood surfaces. A laminate floor is basically a photograph that is glued to a sub-floor, so we aren’t able to restore them.

Can You Fix Damage, Like Scratches, on Hardwood Floors?

Yes! Most people who want their floors refinished are doing so because of damage. We can handle the repairs, making your hardwood floors look brand new through our innovative refinishing process.

We even offer hardwood floor restoration services for more serious or severe damage. Whether you have deep scratches, ugly stains, or large gaps between boards, we will screen and fill these areas. During the process, we take great care to remove signs of damage, so the end result looks like-new. We can even refinish older hardwood floors that have been sanded down to tongue-and-groove by previous refinishers.

What About Pet Stains?

You love your four-legged friend, but accidents can put a damper on the shine of your hardwoods. But our hardwood floor refinishing services can help. During our process, we’ll fix all these areas, so you never have to see them again. Just like with scratches and gaps, our technicians will screen and fill any discolored or damaged spots on your floor and then follow up with our classic floor refinishing service. When we’re done, your floors will look like they were just installed.

How Long Does it Take to Refinish Hardwood Floors?

The timeline for refinishing your hardwood floors depends on a few factors, including the size of your space and the condition of your floors. During the consultation part of the process, we will be able to provide a firm turnaround time for your project based on the square footage, the condition of your floors, and other factors that may affect completion of the project.

Generally, it only takes around 1-2 days for hardwood floor refinishing. We can perform the job quickly thanks to our sandless approach and cure your floors instantly with our Lightspeed® UV system. With a conventional refinisher, you often have to wait several days before you can walk on the surface again. With our approach, you can get back to living as soon as we’re done.

How Long Do Refinished Floors Last?

This too depends on several factors, including your lifestyle and the foot traffic the floors experience. With proper cleaning and maintenance, though, you can expect your floors to last for many years. Once we’ve completed refinishing your hardwood floors, we’ll explain cleaning instructions, as well as give you instructions for pet care, foot traffic, and the use of furniture pads to maintain the finish.
